In its ongoing commitment to promote excellent interdisciplinary research on Southeast Asia, Southeast Asian Studies is currently undergoing a period of transition. Our goal is to publish two separate and independent journals: one in Japanese and another in English. The journal is fully peer reviewed and has published world class research on Southeast Asian Studies since 1963. As of November 2011, we are at volume 49. no. 2 (198 issues). As we approach the 50th volume we aim to strengthen our international visibility and research results by founding a new journal entitled Southeast Asian Studies (international version) as of April 2012 which will be published three times a year.

The new journal has an international advisory board of renowned international and Japanese scholars whose research fields cover the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The current journal will become a Japanese-only publication and will be published bi-annually.
